Platinum group metals (PGMs) are rare precious metals: platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium. Inside every catalytic converter, a thin coating of platinum, palladium and rhodium on a ceramic or metal honeycomb turns toxic exhaust gases into less harmful ones.
PGM recycling recovers these metals from used converters, DPFs and electronics so they can be refined and used again. South Africa has the world's largest PGM reserves, and recycling keeps these metals in use while reducing the need for new mining.
For you, it means an old or damaged converter from a scrapped or repaired vehicle is worth real money. How much depends on how much platinum, palladium and rhodium it contains.
Metal prices move every day, so there's no fixed price list. WhatsApp a photo to 084 306 6660 for today's estimate.
